Arhus is Denmark’s second-largest city and the  financial centre of the Central Denmark Region. The city has a catchment area of 1.2 million people within a one-hour travel range and is well connected to Copenhagen and Hamburg. The residents of Aarhus live within walking distance of parks and recreational areas, and within a 15-minute bike ride of a clean coastline, and they benefit from local supplies of clean drinking water.

In close collaboration with the business community and the city’s many knowledge institutions, the City of Aarhus will reduce the city’s CO2 emissions and create intelligent solutions and green growth. Innovative demonstration projects ensure export sales of home-grown climate solutions abroad, attract international investment and fulfil the target of being CO2-neutral by 2030.

Aarhus boasts a unique position in the global wind energy market, and the city is home to some of the world’s largest manufacturers of wind turbines. In 2014 the city reinforced this position by establishing Navitas:  – a new and interdisciplinary innovation centre within energy and environmental technology.

The city has been a leader within the separation of rainwater and sewage for some years. Consequently, an increase in rainfall is no threat to Aarhus. In fact, more rainwater opens up the possibility of developing new recreational areas.
